Happy birthday to me

Posted on 29 June 2007

Today is my 2nd birthday. And what a day it was. Treats, lot’s of play and presents!!! How I love the presents ^_^
It started when I got up this morning and I got my first present from Jessica. A nice blanket for me to sleep on. But I was just up and I didn’t want to sleep!! So “let’s try to destroy it” was my first thought. But Jessica stopped me and replaced my old blankets with the new one. I didn’t agree and immediatly jumped on it again and try to eat it. That will teach her to forget my morning cookie ^_^
After this first “play time”, Jessica decided to put my backbag on me to go shopping for a yummy birthday meal. But we didn’t go directly to the shop. First, we went to Katinka’s house to retrieve Sammy and Shunka. When Katinka saw that I was wearing my backbag, she put the bags on Sammy and Shunka also. So now we were like the 3 happy campers with their back bag. And apparently most people still aren’t used to see dogs with back packs, because we were in the center of attention everywhere we went.
In the store I got to decide what I would want for dinner and at the register Sammy, Shunka and I got our cookie as usual. Did I mention that I love going shopping in pet stores and bakeries? 90% of the time I get a cookie from the people working there ^_^
After the shopping we walked for a bit before returning Sammy and Shunka. And then, after I got home I got a second present. This time it was a present from Katinka. Jessica gave me the present and I rushed to my new blanket to open the present. Why is there always so much paper around presents? I was very curious and wanted to now right away what I got. And I got a present that is ideal for me: a busy buddy. It’s a new kind of treat toy. There were also treats in the present to put in the toy. Because I wanted to play I kept pushing Jessica to fill it up. As result the treats almost fell on the ground so I didn’t have to work for getting them, but it failed.
When Jessica filled the toy I started playing like there was no tomorrow. I was so happy with the new treat that I showed it all the corners in the living room. I kept playing until all the treats were retrieved and then Jessica filled the toy another time. When I got them all out again, Jessica decided it was enough and took the toy away. Why? I want to play some more with it. But it was no helping, I had to calm down and after that we went for another walk.
Around 8 o’clock I went for a evening walk with Sammy and Shunka. And I ran a lot with Shunka. But now I’m very tired and I’m going to sleep on my new blanket ^_^

Frisbee

Posted on 26 June 2007

The frisbee weekend was lots of fun. Eiji enjoyed him a lot and I can’t wait until the moment he can catch a back hand (frisbee move). There are already some pictures of the workshop in the gallery, but more are coming. I have to wait for my sister who also made some.
Enjoy the pictures and don’t forget to read Eiji’s points of view of the workshop.

Frisbee workshop: day 2

Posted on 24 June 2007

Today was the second day of the workshop and I did a lot more than yesterday on the workshop. Dadly enough Katinka, Sammy and Shunka couldn’t come because had fallen ill over night.
So Jessica’s father made a quick walk with me in the morning while Jessica prepared my treats and drinks for the day. After that we too went of to the workshop. I had a lot more space in the car now without Sammy and Shunka, but I felt a little bit lonely. When we arrived I had another walk before I had to spent another morning in the car. Sadly enough I was now all alone and I didn’t want that. So I started barking and howling but it didn’t work. So I gave up after a while and went to sleep to relax my muscles a bit more since they hurt a bit from the day before.
In the middle of the morning, Jessica came to check up on me and gave me treats and water bcause I was a good boy. After that she went ack to learn more thows and tips for frisbee.
When it was lunch break, she came to get me and went for a walk. We played in the grass some attention games and “hunting games” to warm up a bit for the afternoon training. When we went inside because it started to pour, Geert was training his German Shephard. Boy, can that dog run. It was like a locomotive passing by. Shunka often does that too, but I don’t. I rather run “lighter”.
After that and when everybody returned from walking their dog, we started the afternoon training. The ring was divided in 3 and in every piece 1 dog and owner had to take place. Their you could train frisbee and Geert gave advice and tips to improve the frisbee skills.
When it was my time, Jessica took a frisbee and started playing with it before me. I wanted to play to and tried to take the frisbee which is good. So she gave me a treat. When Geert came to look how I was doing he said that I was listening to well!!! Aren’t I a good boy ^_^
Then he asked if I liked to play tug war and Jessica said that I like that a lot (which is true). So Geert took one of his dummies and said to Jessica to play tug war with me. No problem for me, I love it and I didn’t let go. Geert said that was good and Jessica had to take the dummy from me and throw it away. I ran very fast after it and brought it back. Jessica said I was a good boy and gave me a treat. Geert then said she couldn’t do that anymore! No more treat!? NNNNOOOO!!!!!!
But he said that she had to play tug war with me again as a reward. Apparently I’m to fixated on my treats. How does he come up with that idea? ^_~
Then she had to play the same way with the frisbee and me but no tug war because then the frisbee would be destroyed after a couple of times. Yay, I like that idea ^_^
After that, it was the turn for the other dogs and I was getting very tired. So I started sleeping and when it was time for the second round, Jessica said I was too tired. So we watched the other dogs.
When the training was over, the workshop was over but I had a great time. After driving home and eating we went to Katinka’s place to bring her the frisbees she ordered. But then Katinka said to play a little frisbee and I was able to catch a floater! Aren’t I the best keeshond there is? ^_^ So we played for a half hour and then we went home. I can only say this: I had lot’s of fun, but now I’m tired and of to bed.

Frisbee workshop: day 1

Posted on 23 June 2007

Today was the first day of my workshop. It started very early in the morning at 5am. First Katinka took Samy, Shunka and me for a 2 hour walk. Then we went home. By that time Jessica was up and about and we all went in her car. To get to the workshop we had to make a drive for over 2 hours with all the problems of road works and redirections.
In the morning it was only people training, so we, the dogs, had to stay in the car. That was very dangerous for me. To stay in the car, a small space, with Sammy for 3 hours isn’t very safe. I can’t move a lot and have to try to keep out of Sammy’s way or I will get a correction from him. So I was prett stressed. So when Katinka came to check on us in the middle of the morning I was very happy.
During lunch break we went for a little walk. But not to long since I get hot easy and since it was a warm day, Jessica wanted to make shure that I would perform in the afternoon.
When it was “dog time”, we all went inside and in the ring. We all had to stand in a circle and every owner had to describe their dog. Jessica was last. When she was done telling about me, Geert de Bolster (the trainer for the frisbee) said that he was surprised to see a keeshond in the workshop. He was making a reference to the fact that a keeshond has a low hunting drive and aren’t really fitted for frisbee. Hm, we will show him ^_^
Then every dog and owner had to go seperatly and show how the drive was for every dog. When it was finally my turn, I was very excited. I had to try to take my toy and show how my drive is. But due to the long wait and the excitement of trying to play with the other dogs, I was alread a bit tired. So I didn’t wanted to “hunt” for very long.
When that was all over, we had to go in the group per 4 dogs and owners and try playing frisbee. I was one of the dogs that went in last, but the walk in the morning and the long waits were getting to me and I wasn’t that excited anymore. I did take some rollers (a frisbee move), but I was tired very soon.
When everybody had done that, the creator of the workshop Ann de Graef went in the ring with her dog, a rough coated collie, she trained a bit with her dog and Geert gave her some pointers to look out for.
After that, the first day of the workshop was over, but not for me. We drove back to Antwerp to go to a pet shop to get some yummy treats and this means lot’s of different cookies that are harder to find in Ostend. Jessica also found there a good round collar that should be better for my hair.
After shopping we went to Linkeroever in Antwerp. And what a surprise it was. I would have never expected such a big field for playing just next to the freeway. I would recommend every dog owner to take their dog their when the are in Antwerp. I had a blast there. Lot’s of place to run, water to play in and other dogs to play with ^_^
But after that we went home. I can tell you, I’m tired like hell but had lot’s of fun ^_^

It's almost time

Posted on 22 June 2007

I can’t believe it… It’s almost that time… Just a couple of hours left before my very first work shop ^_^
The sad thing is… I have to get up very early in the morning to get there. I better prepare myself and go to bed early.
And no worries. Reports will come, camera’s are loading and treats are being prepared…

It's all about bunnies

Posted on 19 June 2007

You might have read in some previous entries of my diaries that I sometimes have encounters with wild animals, bunnies in particular. Well, I haven’t told a lot about them lately and I’ve got some stories to share.
Let’s see, the first story was in the dunes. Shunka is, as always searching for bunnies. Suddenly she found one and it cames towards me. And I, the big helper I am, tried to slow down the bunny. But instead of stopping the bunny just jumped over me and searched refuge in the bushes behind me.
This other time, we were all walking down in a little park and I suddenly saw a bunny. I started running after it and when it saw me it ran in the bushes. I decided not to let go and followed him. But they were pretty high bushes with lot’s of thorns. So to avoid searching with seeing much, I started jumping high to try to look from above the bushes to search for the bunnies.
While I was doing that, Katinka and Jessica were laughing because I didn’t jump high enough and they could see my tail in moments or my head.
And then this other time. More than one bunny was running away from Shunka and came towards me. Again I acted as the distractor to slow them down. Every direction the jumped, I mimicked.
But can you believe after all this that Katinka dares to say the following: “Eiji has to stop dancing with the bunnies and start to catch them.”

Swimming

Posted on 13 June 2007

I’m a proud keeshond today. That’s because I really swam for the first time today.
I was walking in the woods together with Sammy, Shunka, Katinka and Jessica. It was quite hot and Katinka and Jessica suddenly decided to “throw” the dogs in the water to cool down. Jessica grabbed my and carried me to the water shore and let go.Apparently I fell further in the water than planned and I had to swim a couple of meters to get to a part of the water where I could jump to shore to save my own life.
In the beginning I was paddling very wild with my front paws, but suddenly I noticed that doing that didn’t help and started swimming. Katinka and Jessica were saying things like “Yeah, Eiji you’re swimming. Good boy, good boy.” And after I came out of the water they rewarded me a lot.^_^
But I forgot something very necesary: Katinka and Jessica have both a little sadistic thing in their character and wouldn’t stop with just one time. They started catching me to place Shunka and me back in the water in the same spot so I was again forced to swim.
But I got my revenge. By the end of the “torture” everybody was soaking wet.
I actually enjoyed the cooling down part and started running around and daring Katinka and Jessica to catch me again to place me back in the water. So I jumped all around the whole time.
