Archive for year 2008

I keep repeating myself, but I think I have to. I’m a hunting keeshond and I like it. Today I had my first little success and I hope I will have more of those.
I was taking a walk in the woods when suddenly I saw a little black rabbit. I didn’t hesitate and started running towards it. After hunting it for a while I succeeded: I had caught the rabbit.
As proud as I could be I walked to Katinka to show it and she congratulated me. I kept hopping around with the bunny in my mouth until Shunka saw me. She came to me and wanted to have the rabbit. I gently putted it down, but before she could grab it, the bunny ran away.
Yes, so know you know. I was walking in the woods with a rabbit in my mouth that was still breathing. You know, it was strange having it in my mouth, but I can’t wait to capture my next bunny ^_^

Today I went to the vet for an allergy test. After all the trouble I had this past year with spots on my tummy, Jessica decided that we should start looking for the cause.
So after her work, we went to the vet. When we got there we first got a small explination about the test and how long it would take to get the results.
After that, it was time to start the test. Jessica placed my on the table and the vet brought out his clippers. It was the first time I saw that so I wasn’t sure what he was going to do with it.
I had to lay down on the table and Jessica took my front paw. Then the vet started his clippers. I had never heard that sound before so I was a bit scared. I tried to pull away, but it didn’t work.
After the vet was finished, he took a tube and put something in a vain. I really didn’t like that and I started to pull away again. This time I was succeeding and as a result they called the wife of the vet so she could help Jessica to keep me laying still.
And then it started… My blood was flowing very very very very very slowly and it kept taking forever. After a minute I was getting unpatient and in a surprise move I pulled myself away.
As a result, the vet had to shave my other paw and draw blood from there. Anf again it was flowing very slow. But in the end we had enough blood drawn and I could go home.
I never want that to happen again to me in my whole life!!!!

It was that time of year again. The last weekend of September means one thing: dog tracking for 3 days.
The idea was that we would be more prepared this year so that we wouldn’t have lot’s of trouble. So Jessica packed up my fleece for in the evening and everything else I needed. We were all ready to go on Friday, but then Katinka remembered that we had to had our yearly shot or we wouldn’t be able to participate. So we hurried to the vet to get all the shots necesary.
And immediatly after the vet, we went direction Brussels. We were stuck in traffic for a bit (did you expect anything else), but we were still there on time. We caught up with Barbara and Diena. After extended sniffing, we started the first walk. Just like last year we had to walk 75km in 3 days. Last year we did a lot more because we were lost and had to search or way, but there was an experienced map reader in our team so it went a lot better.
On the first day, there were no problems, but on the second day… Nobody was allowed to touch my back. It was hurting like hell. It was a result of the shots I got on Friday. I think that the vet pulled a mussle and with the long walk after, I started to feel it. I was running and walking without problems, but nobody could touch my back for the rest of the trip.
In the evening I was put on my fleece, but some of the other participants found that very funny and started calling us wimps. But after a couple of hours, Shunka and I were laughing because everybody else was could except for us ^_^
Dispite of the pain of the shots and being laughed at the trip was very good and very exciting and I can’t wait until next year.

It has taken a while, but it finally happened. Today was my debut of agility and as always I was superb ^_^
Jessica wanted to wait until I got a little bit calmer and not so focused on other dogs, but after 3 years she knows that’s impossible, so she decided I could try it.
After registration in dog school, the first lesson began this afternoon. I had to jump on the table, jump over sticks, run through the sack and tunnel. I had most trouble with the tunnel, because I kept thinking that I would get a treat before entering, but that wasn’t true T-T
I was hoping to get a lot more snacks, for doing less than I had to do. But the instructor was surprised that this was my first lesson, because I did so well. What they did notice was that although I should jump on large, I won’t do it and they won’t allow it. Because of the way I’m build, I don’t jump correctly. So I’m only allowed to jump mini and medium. But that doesn’t bother me, this means less hard work.
After the lesson, it’s normally time for the debutants to play, but since they wouldn’t come on the field, the instructor told us that we could play a little bit more. So Jessica decided to take pictures of me.
So this means that starting today i will be doing ‘eijility’. I call it eijility and not agiliy because I will follow my own rules ^_^

I was to excited to write about it yesterday evening, so I’m writing it today. I’m become more and more of a hunter.
Yesterday we (that’s Sammy, Shunka, Katinka, Jessica and me) went for a walk behind the airport. There’s farmer ground behind it and an excellent area for walking. There are a couple of fields with cows (who follow us everytime we walk by), but also fields for harvest.
When we arrived at the last field, Jessica spotted a rabbit and showed it to me. Shunka wasn’t there because she was already chasing another one we spotted earlier. So I started running towards it and when I was almost at his spot, the rabbit saw me and started running away. So I started chasing it, but with all the sharp corners he took, it was difficult. To release some of the tension in me, I started barking which made the rabbit more desperate.
Suddenly the rabbit took a wrong turn and came close to a ditch. So he decided to jump over it. When I arrived I kept running around that area, because I lost his trail. But suddenly I saw that he had miscalculated the distance and was in the water. I decided to step back a bit, so he could come out. And the fool did ^_^
I immediatly started chasing him again, and he escaped barely. He went in the direction of Sammy, Katinka and Jessica. They noticed the rabbit and blocked his way. So he had to make another sharp turn and started running riight across the field. I was barking like mad chasing him and we were getting further and further from everyone else.
After more than 10 minutes chasing him in bushes, I heard Jessica and Katinka calling my name and that I had to come back. Relunctly I gave the chase up and went back to them. They both congratulated me for doing such a great chase and promised something very yummy when we got home. And I did! I got lot’s of cookies when we got home!!!

It has been a while that I had some skin irritations but each time Jessica went to the vet with me and we treated it.
We started with desinfecting all the spots, and after a while they dissappears.
But lately it is getting worse and it can itch a lot. So we went back to the vet for a check up. The vet didn’t find a cause for the irritations, so he decided to give me a cortisone treatment and a spray to reduce the itching.
I hope it works, because now it’s getting really itchy. The irritation causes round loose scales on my tummy.

On Monday and Tuesday I went with Shunka, Katinka, Diena and Barbara (I know these two from a forum) on a trip to the Brabantse Wal. It’s a green area just above Antwerp.
I’ve never heard of it, so I was very excited.
It was a great two day trip: running in the fields, jumping in the water, searching for wild animals.
In the evening it was a bit cold but Shunka and me were put on our fleece, so we could stay nice and warm after the whole day running around. Barbara was laughing at us for wearing it, but we didn’t care.
In the end it was lot’s of fun and lot’s of new discoveries. I hope we can go again next year.

It’s starting to get hot and this means that I’m again searching for cool places. But today I didn’t have to look for it because Katinka and Jessica had prepared something for Shunka, Sammy and me.
About 1:30pm we arrived at Katinka’s home. When we entered at the back we saw something amazing: a big pink floatable pool for ME!!
Jessica started filling it with water, but that took longer than expected. So Shunka and I started jumping in and out of the pool to cool off.
When the pool was full, Katinka suddenly had cookies and started holding them under water so that Shunka and I had to take them. That wasn’t so easy. I had to put my nose under water. That was so strange. When it didn’t work out immediatly, I first tried to take it with my paw, but that also didn’t seem to work. So after a while I decided to dive in a little more and then I got the cookie!!!
When we were played out, it was time to wash my fur. The shampoo foamed a whole lot and after a while it was more foam that keeshond! How is that possible.
After the bath, Jessica and Katinka were searching to let the water go, but as a result, Jessica accidently ripped the pool and now we don’t have our own little pool anymore T-T And now they will have to search for a new one.

You may have noticed that in this 3 years, I’ve never mentioned the word ‘fireworks’. That’s because I’ve never been to a place where there was such event. But tonight I’ve seen my first fireworks!
Normally when Jessica goes to bed, I get a biscuit and also go to sleep. But suddenly she was back next to me and put on my leash and we went outside. After a while I noticed that we were heading in the direction of the beach, which made me very excited because I love the beach. But we didn’t go on the beach. Instead we walk just next to it and went in the direction of the shops. Then halfway we stopped and sat down on a bench. After 10 minutes I suddenly started hearing bangs and saw lot’s of colors in the sky.
I wasn’t really scared. Most of the bangs I heard were nothing, but sometimes I heard a very loud bang and I wasn’t comfortable. I decided to turn around and go back home, but Jessica wouldn’t allow it. So I turned my back to it and sat there until Jessica decided to go back home.

It’s my birthday today!!! I’m now already 3 years old. How fast the time goes by.
When I woke up, I got a biscuit and we went for a long walk. I just love walking in the morning. After that I got my presents. I received several plushies, 2 Rogz collars and a water toy. Jessica had already filled the toy beforehand and put it in the freezer so that it was ice cold when I got it. It’s a great toy and the cooliness is something I really like (especially on hot days).
In the afternoon Shunka, Jessica and me went for a walk at Walrave. It’s was a bit hot, but nothing that I can’t handle because there was lot’s of fresh water around to play in ^_^
Shunka was a bit scared because there were some loud noises, but that didn’t stop me from running around crazy.
My meal was a BARF meal with all my favorites. I was sad when I’ve finished it and asked for more, but I didn’t got any T-T
As a closure for the day we went for a beach walk and this also included Sammy and Katinka. There was lot’s of wind, but luckily it was from behind when we got on the beach so we didn’t have any sand in our face. After relaxing in the sun and playing and running after Shunka’s pink mini rugby ball, we walked in the dunes to chill out.
